Buckingham Pewter

“Why go to all this trouble for a belt buckle?”

I recently spent time at Buckingham Pewter, a Perth-based workshop known for their handcrafted pewter pieces, particularly their special belt buckles. I was there to document the full process, from molten metal to the final product in use.

It’s a place where everything is intentional. From the initial pour to grinding, polishing, painting, and assembly every stage is hands-on, every detail considered. It’s hot, loud, and precise. The kind of work where craftsmanship is non-negotiable.

Over a few days, I photographed the entire journey. Not just the making, but the wearing those buckles put to use by people who value what goes into them.

So why go to all this trouble?

Because craft still matters. Because there’s something powerful in making with care. And because a small team in Perth is keeping that spirit alive, one buckle at a time.
