Allington Family Farm

“This all seems so unbelievably hard, so why do you do it?”

I recently visited Allington Family Farm, a pasture-raised, family-run farm in regional WA. I arrived expecting golden light and tidy moments—but what I found was something far more real. By the time I showed up for sunrise, Trav and Zoe had already been working for hours.

Thick fog gave way to a carefully run system: twelve fields, each with different chickens in mobile shelters made from old caravans. Everything moves to protect the land and give animals fresh ground. Regenerative farming, done with intention.

We spent the morning capturing it all—feeding, collecting eggs, prepping for 720 new birds. Later, I asked Trav why they do it.

“The food system is broken,” he said. “We wanted to heal the land, care for the animals, and produce nutrient-dense food. What keeps us going is seeing people step outside the system and back the little guys.”

It’s more than farming. It’s resistance. Purpose. And it’s powered by people who believe there’s a better way.
